It was the Central American cultures, such as Aztecs and Incas that understood and gifted the world with the wonderful number zero. It changed how we count and measure things. Example, there was never a 0 AD, the same year of our Lord assumed being born is 1 AD. Therefore a misconception of counting has existed for a very long time. The first 1-10 AD years was the first decade. The second decade didn't start till 11 AD, and so forth to today. Even the counting of millenniums is off because of the absence of zero in in Europe, the years 1 - 1000 was the first millennium, so the second millennium started year 1001 AD. Even today the power and confusion of numbers is evident. Remember News Years Eve 1999? When the clock struck midnight, the new year 2000 was promoted as the 21 Century, when the real 21 Century didn't start till 2001.
